Purpose

This section is intended to provide an overview of safe practices and District safety expectations surrounding the use of wireless electronic devices in the workplace and on job sites. Wireless electronic devices include, but not limited to, cellular phone, laptop computer, tablet, earbuds/headphones, and/or iPad.

 Applicability

All District employees

Responsibilities

Any use of wireless electronic devices, including when driving, should be in compliance with state and/or federal law (RCW 46.61.672 Using a personal electronic device while driving, RCW 46.61.673 Dangerously distracted driving). No employee should use a wireless electronic device when operating District owned vehicles (District Directive 60 Assignment and Use of District Vehicles).

The following are basic guidelines for the use of wireless electronic devices:

  • Personal use of wireless electronic devices while working should be limited.
  • Volume on wireless device should be kept at a low level as not to startle or disturb others.
  • If a call must be made or accepted while working, ensure that the work area and those working are safe before making or accepting call.
  • If a call must be made or accepted when driving a hands free device/connection must be utilized. If unable to utilize hands free option, find a safe area to pull off before accepting and/or returning call.
  • Wireless Bluetooth earphones, Airpods, or earbuds are not hearing protection and should not be used as.
